Vesaiset Central Organisation is a national organisation for families and children. We offer many kinds of free time and recreational activities for the whole family. Vesaiset Central Union was founded in 1956 and has currently 25 000 participants of all ages. We have 19 regional organisations and several active local organisations for every region.
Vesaiset is politically active in issues concerning families and children. We share many of the values represented by the Centre Party of Finland, but our activities for families and children are apolitical and all families are welcome to participate. Vesaiset acts in close cooperation with other organisations working with children.
Activity in the interests of the Family
Vesaiset offers various recreational activities focused according to local needs. The Central Organisation hosts an annual Family Camp that attracts participants from all over the country, bringing together families and children from the farthest corners of Lappland and the big cities of the south coast. Vesaiset has meetings in villages, towns, different parts of larger cities and finally on regional level.
Vesaiset encourages parents to get to know the parents of their children's friends and any other adults their children regularly come into contact with. Familiar adults act as a safety net around the child and cooperation between these adults makes it safe for children to test their boundaries.
International activities
Vesvisor activity is an important part of our international activities. We are training Vesvisors for our regional and local organisations, who will then undertake local and regional level projects as defined in the European Union Youth Program.
Vesvisors distribute information on their projects and stay in touch with other Vesvisors. During this undertaking we will be developing new tools for them and support the launch of other programs by like-minded organisations in different parts of the country. Our aim is to encourage our members to take part and volunteer for the Vesvisor project. We also aim to provide the local youth with information on our projects and encourage them to participate and begin new undertakings.
As of now, Vesvisor projects have been planned and carried out by our regional organisations in Kuopio, Karelia and Upper Savo. We have also conducted volunteer worker exchange with Portugal. Next year we plan to have two young volunteers from Hungary in both Lappeenranta and Kuopio.
